Fan Fiction: Superhuman Chapter 17

“I’m gonna go find something to eat,” Chris told me, “You want anything?”

“We can share whatever you find,” I answered. I sat there twirling my straw in my cup as Chris disappeared into the mist of people.

“Let me get some Barcadi,” the guy next to me said. He looked over at me and smiled so I smiled back. “Are you here alone?” he asked me.

“No,” I said shaking my head just in case he couldn’t hear me over the loud music, “I’m here with my boyfriend,” I turned around back towards the crowd and tried to catch a glimpse of Chris but he was nowhere to be found.

“Yeah, I figured a girl like you would have a boyfriend,” he smiled again, “You’re really pretty.”

“Uhm, thanks,” I answered turning back towards the crowd again, still no Chris. I took another sip and felt him staring at me so I downed the rest of my glass so I wouldn’t have to speak to him. I kept turning around to see if Chris was on his way back; it felt like he was gone for almost twenty minutes but in reality he was gone for about three. I could feel his eyes staring at me and I had never felt so uncomfortable I thought as I hid my face behind my long curly locks.

“You need another drink there?” he asked as he nudged my shoulder.

“No, no I’m fine thanks,” I said trying my best to sound normal. Where the fuck is Chris? I thought again, my patience was wearing thin and I wanted to leave. I dropped my purse on the floor and bent down to pick it up and when I stared at the bar of course there was a new drink on my side of the counter. He was smiling at me and I put on the fakest smile I could.

“You didn’t have to, my boyfriend was going to get me another drink,” I said putting a lot of emphasis on My Boyfriend.

He shrugged and said, “A toast to a good night,” and raised his glass and clanged it against mine. Christopher, I thought hoping he would read my mind but I’m pretty sure his powers didn’t work that way. This time I took my time with my drink and when I was halfway done my tongue felt numb, the room started spinning, and I felt like I was looking into a kaleidoscope.

4 months later…

“Are you still having flashbacks in your dreams?” she asked me, I hated being here.

“Yes,” I answered as I watched her scribble something on her notepad.

“Now are you sure it happened the way it did or is it just your dreams and a figment of your imagination?”

I scoffed, “I used to wear a promise ring,” I said as I started picking up my things and walked towards the door, “Why would I imagine getting raped?”

My parents thought that seeing a therapist would help me break out of my shell once again. I was so paranoid, disgusted, hurt, and suicidal, my life was just horrible. I dropped out of school and haven’t been doing much since the day Chris found me in his dorm room. I sat in my car and watched the January snow fall on the windshield of my car as I stared at the people walking past but one particular person caught my attention. He had a skully on with a black pea coat and fitted jeans; he was light skin and had nice brown eyes with full pink lips.

“Chris,” I whispered to myself, but obviously it wasn’t him.

I remembered seeing him in that court room and no matter how much I wanted to blame myself he wouldn’t let me. I even testified no matter how much my parents begged me not to, but he was still convicted of assault. They said he should have let the cops handle it instead of taking matters into his own hands. Luckily, the jury had heard about what happened to me and how he was convicted of rape and was sentenced to 6 months in prison. It wasn’t much but I was glad he was sent away and I knew he would get his in prison; hell he already lost any chance he had of being in the NBA. Chris could have spent almost a year in prison for assault but he pleaded guilty and spent two nights in county jail along with a couple hundred hours of community service. But two days was more than enough time for my parents to pack up everything and relocate to New Jersey, taking me with them. They blamed Chris, they believed he changed me but what they didn’t know was that I loved him and he kept me sane.

***********************************

I hated the holidays, everyone was so happy and I had to pretend I was the same. Outside I smiled at everyone that asked me how I was doing since the incidents but inside I was still broken. My first time was forced when I honestly wanted to share that moment with Chris; he actually understood me. I had no friends, my parents had lived hours across town, and my brother paid me no mind; Chris was there even if it wasn’t for long. Now I was standing in this crowded mansion for my parent’s New Year’s Eve party and all these people approached me as if they knew what I had been through. I tried to kill myself. I tried to kill myself because I couldn’t stand being alone, I hated who I was. Out of all of the people in the world this happened to me, why me? I used to be so happy.

I heard the doorbell ring several times and since no one had even flinched I went to open the door. There he was, Shad. He was a close family friend, we had known each other since we were kids, and the rest of his family was already here so his presence was not unexpected. He hugged me and my body tensed up, I hadn’t let another man touch me in months.

He felt my tension, “I’m sorry, Taylor,” he said and I just tried my hardest to smile.

“Shad!” someone had called from inside, I turned around to see his younger sister running towards him and he walked inside the house. Just as I was closing the door someone pushed it open again, it was Justin he must’ve have been here with Shad and for Austin. I looked past him and stepped out onto the front steps and stared at his black Range Rover.

“He’s not here, Tay” he told me. I looked him in the eyes as he put his hands in his pockets, his eyes looked glassy and he seemed sad. Great, he felt sorry for me just like everyone else here; it felt more like a pity party than a New Year’s Eve party. I walked past him back into the house and upstairs to my room and when I shut the door it opened, he followed me and watched me as I sat on my bed with my head in my hands.

“Where is he?” I asked, he didn’t say anything so I looked up at him; he was hesitant.

“He went back to Virginia,” he said and opened the door to leave, “I’m sorry.”

Not only was my life ruined but I ruined his as well. He must have thought that I left him since we never got chance to speak after his trial and now he was back in Virginia, with The Elite.

Fan Fiction: Superhuman Chapter 16

He drove over to the campus and started walking around; something told him that she would be here. It was obvious he didn’t belong among all these White kids that all looked like they lived in the Upper East Side with their rich parents. So far he was the only guy walking around with a body marked up with tattoos; they might as well call an Intruder Alert he thought. He had never even been on this campus before with Taylor; he had never even been on a college campus at all. He slipped right through the back door of a building before it slammed shut and everything seemed more calm and quieter. As he walked down the hall he realized he was in the dorm building considering all the designs on the doors, bulletin boards on the walls, and people walking around in pajamas. He jogged up the stairs and entered a new hallway just as he recognized the girl that was walking towards him but he couldn’t remember where he had seen her until she walked past him.

“Hey!” Chris called out to her but she couldn’t hear him with her Dre Beats on. He ran down the hall towards her and pulled on her arm, “Hey, have you seen Taylor?”

“What the hell is your problem?” she asked pulling off her headphones. She hadn’t recognized him from Taylor’s birthday party but Chris remembered she was the first person Taylor hugged when she walked into her apartment.

“Have you seen Taylor?” he asked again ignoring her attitude, he was desperate for an answer.

She looked down the hallway almost as if she was checking to make sure they were alone, “She’s with Evan,” she whispered and quickly put the key into her door and slammed it shut in Chris’ face before he got the chance to ask another question.

***

He sat outside on one of the benches contemplating what he should do next. He never even remembered Taylor mentioning an Evan before but they never really discussed exes at all. Was she cheating on him? And if she was he expected her to be with Shad not Evan. Who the fuck was Evan? But Taylor was worried and scared, he remembered. Either way he had to confront the situation and might as well get it over with while he was there. He walked through the main entrance this time and tried his best to fit in with a group of students that were headed in the same direction.

“Where are you going?” the security at the main desk asked him.

“Oh, I’m looking for my brother Evan,” he answered; which was the dumbest thing he could think of, he didn’t even know what Evan looked like.

“He’s in Room 415,” the security guard answered.

“Thanks,” Chris said and walked into the stairwell, “Dumbass,” he whispered and ran up to the fourth floor.

When he finally got up to the fourth floor he stopped and caught his breath, he tried not to imagine the worse but that’s really all he pictured. Taylor had his heart and she knew it, he thought as he stood in front of room 415. He leaned towards the door and heard nothing, he knocked and heard something drop or maybe someone fell but no one answered the door. He knocked again, complete silence.

“Taylor,” he said quietly and held both hands up against the door and closed his eyes trying to see through. Two girls walking past him started giggling and broke his concentration. He rolled his eyes at them and waited till they left and tried again. There she was lying on the bed looking confused, tired, and a mess but she was alone. Chris banged his fist on the door but she wouldn’t open it so he turned the knob. He opened the door and their eyes met but neither of them said anything, Taylor started crying. Chris was confused, he didn’t know whether he should comfort her or curse her out but as he walked towards her he realized she was still in her dress from the other night but it was slightly ripped on the bottom.

“Taylor, what happened?” he said pulling her closer to him, she buried her face in his shoulder and he looked around the room trying to figure out who this Evan guy was.

“I- I don’t know,” she fought out through her tears; her whole body was shaking as he held closer. He heard the door open behind him and Taylor tensed up, she was scared. Chris turned around and saw some guy who was around the same age as him staring down at his phone; he hadn’t noticed Chris was in there until he stood up off the bed.

“Who the fuck are you?” Evan asked closing the door and setting his phone down on a desk right next to a box of Magnums. Chris looked over at the desk and hadn’t noticed that before, he was already fuming.

“What did you do to her?” he asked, he sounded crazy.

“You mean what did she ask me to do,” he chuckled but Chris didn’t let him continue just as his fist met Evan’s temple and he crashed into the wall. Chris blanked out that he couldn’t even hear Taylor screaming for him to stop; Evan had given up the fight as Chris continued to bash his fist against his skull until he was knocked out cold. Chris turned around with his fist raised in the air as he felt a tug on his arm, he realized it was Taylor and his arm dropped. She wrapped her arms around his waist as tight as she could and cried on his chest.

“Take me home,” she just kept repeating and Chris could feel his heart and world slowly crumbling. Once again he felt like a failure. He was so selfish and naïve that he thought Taylor had been cheating on him, he was only thinking about himself when she had really needed him the most. He took off his t-shirt and helped Taylor put it on so no one could see her in her ripped dress as they walked out the door. Luckily after all the noise and commotion he had made no one was in the hall or by the back door as Chris ran towards his car as fast as he could with Taylor in his arms. He laid her down in the back seat and gave her a hoodie; she had cried herself to sleep before he even pulled out of the parking lot. Chris stared at her the whole time through the rear view mirror and started crying out of frustration as he thought of all the things that probably happened to her.

Fan Fiction: Superhuman Chapter 15

When Chris woke up and headed to the kitchen to make breakfast Justin was walking his most recent female companion out the door. She was actually very pretty and it saddened Chris how some females could be so easy. All night he thought about what went wrong at the party and he couldn’t think of anything that bad that would make her leave. She might have been uncomfortable but she never said she was, besides Chris was with her the whole time; what was the worst that could happen? Just yesterday she had told him she loved him and he told her he was committed, he’d even asked her to marry him even though it wasn’t meant to be taken seriously but it was a step to a better relationship. Chris doubted something was wrong with Taylor, she only had about two drinks and if she was hurt he would have sensed it.

“What happened last night?” Justin asked while he sat at the kitchen counter.

“I don’t know she just disappeared with some other guy, it’s whatever,” he responded.

Justin shook his head in disappointment, “It’s not ‘whatever’ I thought you guys were official and shit.”

“Yeah, that’s what I thought too,” Chris said walking to his room.

He had nothing to do, it’s not like he went to school or had a job like most people his age. The money he had was from all of the dirty work he had done throughout the years and it bothered him that that was all he was worth. There was a loud knock at the front door, he didn’t flinch or even bother to answer it. He heard the door open and quickly recognized the voice.

“Where the fuck is she?” Austin yelled.

“The last time we saw your sister was at the party. She ain’t here so relax,” Justin warned him.

Chris was hesitant at first to get up from his bed but his heart started racing, where was she? He walked down the hallway towards the front door and saw Austin’s face he went from confused to frustrated to pissed when he finally caught a glimpse of Chris.

He pushed him against the wall, “Where the fuck is my sister, Chris?”

Chris didn’t either bother to react aggressively towards him but if he swung there was no doubt in Chris’ mind that he might just kill him, he was tired of being treated like an animal.

“I don’t know,” he simply answered, it was the truth.

Austin must have believed him because he loosened his grip and his hands fell down to his side and he shook his head.

“She didn’t come home last night, she won’t answer her phone, and I haven’t even told my parents,” he said as his eyes became watery, “She’s not like this.”

Chris felt bad for Austin but he honestly didn’t give a shit about him.

“She was with me the whole day yesterday,” Chris started, “She went out with us to this party downtown, I walked away from her for about ten minutes and when I came back the bartender said she left with some dude. Ask Shad.”

Austin shook his head, “Shad’s downstairs in my car.”

***********

Chris and Justin sat on one couch while Austin and Shad sat on the couch across from them. Justin was the mutual person in this situation while the other three wanted to kill each other. Austin was worried, Shad was pissed, but Chris was calm which made Shad even more pissed. Chris knew they both blamed him for whatever happened to Taylor but Chris was clueless, he had blamed Shad but he was sitting right in front of him and Taylor was nowhere to be found. It was pointless to just sit and wait while making phone calls to her supposed friends. Chris grabbed his phone and car keys off the table and headed out the door while they all stared at him in confusion.

By the time Chris got downstairs to the parking lot he heard footsteps behind him.

“Where the hell are you going? Taylor’s missing and you’re going out?” Shad asked.

Chris tried to ignore him but it was almost impossible, Shad was literally leaning against the car right next to him.

“You think I’m going shopping or something? Are you stupid?” Chris asked; Shad’s presence frustrated him. He got in the car, locked all the doors, and peeled out; leaving Shad alone in the parking lot.

He didn’t know where to start, they all called Taylor’s phone and it didn’t even ring. Chris decided it wouldn’t hurt to try one more time as he scrolled through his most recent calls and pressed talk.

“Come on, Taylor please pick up,” he said to himself, there was no tone. He gripped his phone in his fist and tried to calm himself down before he threw it at the windshield. He had thought that if she was in danger he would be able to sense her fear or anything just like he did for that girl in the alley but it didn’t work. Were his powers wearing off? Chris didn’t know any of Taylor’s friends either so that was pointless. He stared at the screen saver on his phone. It was a picture of her in one of his snapbacks with his white t-shirt on. If anything happened to her he wouldn’t know what to do with his life, he’d probably end up back in The Elite; he was that hopeless.

He pressed talk one more time and waited. It started to ring, the line clicked like someone had answered. “Taylor?” he whispered, no answer. There was a muffled kind of silence and whoever was on the other side of the line didn’t speak at all. “Talk to me, Tay,” Chris practically begged and just as he was about to say ‘I love you’ the call was dropped. He threw his phone towards the passenger seat and punched the steering wheel. Was she mad at him? Something was wrong and he didn’t know what it was. He put his head against steering wheel and closed his eyes, everything went blank and he finally saw her. She was dazed out and scared. He had to save her.

Fan Fiction: Superhuman Chapter 14

Never in a million years did Taylor ever think she would actually get married let alone be in a committed relationship for so long. She officially started dating Chris the day after her birthday, the same day that she dumped Shad. It was only the fourth day of their relationship and he wanted to get married? Was he insane?

“Chris we’re too young and we haven’t even been together for a week,” she replied with her back to him, she was too nervous to look him in the eye.

“Yeah I know,” he said as he walked up behind her, “But I just wanted to let you know I’m committed to you. The sex doesn’t matter, Taylor.”

She felt his hands around her waist and turned around, “Really?” she asked.

“Yes,” he said looking into her eyes, “Besides that’s what Playboy magazines are for.”

“You’re disgusting” she said smacking his chest and walking away into the living room.

“Wow that was fast,” Justin said while he held onto his bowl of cereal. He gave Chris a thumbs up and winked at Taylor.

“So does the perverted-ness run in the family?” she sarcastically asked.

“Family?” Justin responded with a mouthful of Cap’n Crunch. He looked over at Chris who gave him a look that practically said he better go along with it or else, “Oh yeah, I guess so,” Justin said.

Chris sat down on the couch and Taylor layed down with her head on his lap. Justin was switching through the channels on the television and stopped on Faux News when he saw the familiar sketch of Chris from a few months ago.

“Is it a copy-cat or has our city’s hero turned into a villain?” the reporter said into the camera. Someone had been going around the city committing sex crimes against women in subways and they were dressed exactly the same way Chris was when he had saved that girl in the alley.

“Wait,” Taylor said lifting herself off the couch and pointing from Chris to the television, “Why does he look just like you?”

“Chris, what’s wrong with your girl?” Justin asked trying to take the attention off of Chris, “That dude looks nothing like you. You’re blonde, skinny like a twig—“

“Jus, shut up,” Chris finally cut him off and Justin walked out of the living room. “Months ago before I met you I saved this girl in an alley from some serial rapist. Justin’s the only person that knows and now you know, but all that stuff that’s going on now that’s not me.”

“But why didn’t you ever tell people you saved her?” she asked looking at him confused.

“The news would ask me how I knew she was there plus those guys were looking for me. And I don’t care if people know that I save other people, I don’t need or want that kind of attention,” he said.

“Why didn’t you tell me? You already told me everything else.”

“I forgot,” he answered.

Taylor stared at him like she was looking into his soul and his mind.

“Are we done with the secrets?” she asked.

“Yeah,” Chris answered.

“You swear?” she asked putting her pinky in Chris’ face.

“Yes, Taylor,” he said and they locked pinky’s, little did they know they were both lying.

 ***********

“Chris, I need to go,” Taylor said halfway out the door while Chris pulled on her arm.

“Wait,” he said pulling her close and leaning down to kiss her and when he did he pulled her back inside and shut the door.

“I have to go home, Austin’s already called me like five times,” she said.

“He thinks you’re at the library so… let’s study,” he smiled at her and raised his eyebrows.

“Christopher West,” she said and pushed him off.

“Hey Chris, party tonight. We going?” Justin asked walking past them to his room.

Chris looked at Taylor and she sighed, “I don’t have anything to wear.”

 ************

A quick 30 minute shopping spree in Soho and Chris already had Taylor dressed and ready to go. He knew with the drama between her brother and ex-boyfriend he had to make the most out of the time he spent with her. Chris and Justin were sitting on the couch waiting for Taylor to come out.

“Now I know why you love her so much, you’re exactly the same,” Justin said looking at his watch as Chris tapped his fingers on the arm of the couch. They heard a door open down the hall and they both sat up as they heard heels clicking on the wooden floor. They both watched as Taylor walked towards them with her head down, completely oblivious to how mesmerized they were.

“Damn,” Justin said.

Taylor looked up, “Huh? Is something wrong?”

Chris looked at Justin and whispered. “Shut up,” he walked over to Taylor kissed her on the cheek, “You look beautiful,” he said and grabbed her hand and headed out the door.

“Everyone always leaves me behind,” Justin said to himself and jogged after them.

*****************

It was a typical downtown party, the usual people were scattered around passing drinks, blunts, the works. Taylor held on tighter to Chris’ hand, she didn’t feel comfortable. Someone Justin knew called them over by the bar and passed them drinks, Chris just set his back on the counter and watched as Taylor just stared at hers.

“Babe, if you want to drink go right ahead,” Chris said and she took a sip; whatever it was it must’ve been strong because her face squirmed. The party was pretty wild, everyone was drinking, dancing, and just having a good time. The whole time they were there Chris just sat at the bar and Taylor kept taking sips since she was so bored.

“I’m gonna go find something to eat,” Chris told Taylor, “You want anything?”

“We can share whatever you find,” she answered. She sat there twirling her straw in her cup as Chris disappeared into the mist of people.

“Let me get some Barcadi,” the guy next to Taylor said. He looked over at her and smiled and she smiled back. “Are you here alone?” he asked her.

“No,” she said shaking her head just in case he couldn’t hear her over the loud music, “I’m here with my boyfriend,” she turned around back towards the crowd and tried to catch a glimpse of Chris but she didn’t see him.

“Yeah, I figured a girl like you would have a boyfriend,” he smiled again, “You’re really pretty.”

“Uhm, thanks,” Taylor replied turning back towards the crowd again, still no Chris. She took another sip as she felt him staring at her and she downed the rest of her glass so she wouldn’t have to speak to him.

Chris finally found some chips in the kitchen and grabbed himself a bottle of soda. He headed back to the mini bar where he had left Taylor and saw no one, he put the chips and soda down on the nearest table. He walked to the bathroom but Taylor wasn’t in the line of girls waiting for their turn. She wasn’t dancing or in the living room so he checked outside. He went to look for Justin, “Have you seen Taylor? I can’t find her,” he told him.

“She looked uncomfortable when she got here, Chris maybe she left,” Justin said.

He doubted she would just up and leave like that, he believed she would have the decency to at least tell him. They were a couple, there are rules to a relationship and couples didn’t do this kind of stuff. Chris walked around the whole house once again and didn’t see her. He walked over to the bar, “Where’s the girl who was sitting here a while ago?” he asked, “The one with the curly blonde hair?”

“She left a little while ago with some guy,” the bartender answered.

Chris sucked his teeth, his jaw was clenched, and he was pissed. He should’ve known better. Justin and Austin were still friends, Austin was friends with Shad; any party Justin was invited to they would be there as well. He didn’t even bother to walk around the whole house to look for Taylor, Shad, or Austin; she must’ve been long gone by now. It was bound to happen, Shad never even took his luggage from Taylor’s house, Chris thought as he headed out the front door and hopped in a cab to go home.

Fan Fiction: Superhuman Chapter 13

Taylor was supposed to get out of class at around 5 o’clock and it was already 8:30pm and she still hadn’t shown up or even called. Just when Chris thought everything between them was fine this happens. It was like his life was meant to be messed up and no matter how much he tried to change something would go wrong.

“Where is she?” Justin asked walking over to refrigerator.

“Man, shut up,” Chris answered from the couch, he turned off the television and just lay there while Justin shut off the lights and walked back to his room. He thought about how alone he was in the world and how if he just died this instant hardly anyone would care and he probably wouldn’t even have a funeral. What was the point of that if only Justin would show up? His presence in this world didn’t matter. What was he doing with his life? He wasn’t changing the world or inspiring anyone in any type of way. He felt useless. He kept replaying the day his parents had been murdered over and over again in his head. He hadn’t told anyone that story in years, Taylor was the second person he ever told and the first person who had no idea about that lifestyle until Chris explained it. Who was he supposed to blame for the life he had? His father didn’t even approve for what was going on. The Elite meant nothing to Chris he hated them with a passion. He was angry with himself and he didn’t really know why. For the first time in 8 years he cried himself to sleep as quietly as he could so Justin wouldn’t hear him.

The fire alarm went off and smoke filled the air, Chris jumped off the couch and saw Taylor fanning the smoke detector with a towel and he started to laugh.

Scratching his head he walked over to the kitchen, “Taylor, what are you doing?”

She looked at him surprised, she hadn’t realized he woke up, “I tried making breakfast,” she shrugged her shoulders and threw the towel on the counter. Chris smiled at her and she smiled right back, everything was going to be alright. He walked towards her and put one hand on her waist and the other through her curly dirty blonde hair.

“How’d you get in here?” he asked.

“Justin let me in last night. You were sleeping but I didn’t want to wake you so I fell asleep in your bed.”

“You were in my bed without me? First Victoria’s Secret and now this?” he shook his head and she laughed.

He cleared off the counter, picked her up from her waist and sat her on it. Taylor started giggling while Chris kissed her on her neck; clearly he found her weak spot.

“Babe, I can’t be serious with you giggling,” Chris said looking up at her.

“Okay, I’ll stop I swear,” she laughed one last time while Chris stared at her seriously again. He didn’t believe her so she ran her fingers through his blonde hair, kissed him, and bit his lip. He pulled off her shirt as she lay back on the counter.

“My virgin eyes!” Justin yelled as he grabbed a bowl from the cabinet and the sugar that was right next to Taylor on the counter. Chris covered her to stop Justin from staring while she was just laying there in her bra and boxers. “Chris, you have a room use it,” Justin said walking to the living room with his bowl of cereal. Taylor started laughing again as Chris picked her up over his shoulder and walked towards his room.

“Chris, the pancakes!” she yelled pointing to the kitchen but it was already too late, he had already put her down on the bed. They were both quiet as he lay over her in a push up position. He took his shirt off as they started to kiss, right when he was about to snap off her bra she slid out from underneath him off the bed.

“What’s that all about?”

“I’m a virgin,” she said pointing at her promise ring and Chris wondered why he never noticed that before.

“Okay, and?” Chris replied.

“Okay, so I don’t want to have sex till after I’m married,” she answered as she put on her shirt and headed towards the door.

“So let’s get married,” Chris said and she froze.

Fan Fiction: Superhuman Chapter 12

It was two in the afternoon as Chris drove around downtown looking for Taylor. He didn’t even bother to check at her loft because he knew either Shad or Austin would be there, besides she started school a few days ago so she wouldn’t even be home.

Chris: Where are you?
Taylor: In class.
Chris: Are you coming out soon? There’s something I need to tell you
Taylor: Class just started, Chris. Meet me at Washington Sq. Park in an hour

This gave Chris more than enough time to think about everything he had to say and how he was going to say it.

“How the hell am I supposed to start this?” he asked himself; he was already losing patience with himself. Chris never really had many friends, most of his life he was isolated from the outside world. The only true real friend he ever had was Justin and that was only because they were similar and  Chris never had to explain his life because Justin shared the same story.

“So… when I was 10 I was kidnapped by a group of people who tried to seek revenge on my father,” he started saying to himself. There was a knock on the passenger door and he unlocked the doors to let Taylor in.

“Who were you just talking to?” Taylor asked dropping her books into the backseat. This whole situation just felt awkward, normally Taylor would kiss him whenever she saw him or at least smile but she seemed serious and annoyed.

“I was just singing,” Chris answered and smiled as they both looked at the radio which was turned off.

“So what’s up?” Taylor asked, “You disappeared that day and you haven’t called me in two days.”

Chris sighed, “I don’t know, I just felt uncomfortable and I only left before I did something I’d regret.”

“How’d you leave? There’s no fire escape and the door was locked,” she said looking at him with a curious look on her face.

“What are we?” he randomly asked.

“What are you talking about?”

“What am I to you? What are we?” he asked again pointing to himself and her.

“We’re a couple,” she answered, “You’re my boyfriend and I’m your girlfriend, I guess. Chris, what’s going on? I’m confused,” her voice cracked.

“Listen, I know I haven’t known you for that long but I really like you, a lot and if you feel the same I think there’s something you should know.”

“I already told you that I loved you. You’re not like anyone I’ve ever met and you just make me feel different, Chris; a good different. I haven’t been this happy in a while,” Taylor answered.

Chris stared off in front of him and he felt Taylor staring at him, he sensed that she was worried and scared.

“When I was ten years old I was kidnapped. My dad was a doctor for this company and he hadn’t realized that  they weren’t the type of medical companies that wanted to cure diseases, they wanted to create something, something my dad didn’t agree with. It was a normal Sunday morning, my mom was cooking my dad was in his office and I was upstairs in my room. It was just a normal day until I heard my mom scream and people yelling. I ran downstairs, my first instinct was to figure out was wrong but I should’ve hid. When I got to the kitchen my mom was lying on the kitchen floor dead, they had shot her. I ran to my dad’s office and he was trying to fight off these men I had never seen before. He yelled at me to run to leave as fast as I could and when I ran out of the office and out the front door they got me and that’s when I heard another gunshot, they killed my father too,” he looked over at Taylor who wasn’t even looking at him anymore.

“They took me away and I had no family left. It wasn’t even on the news, that’s how well they covered it all up. They experimented on me with what my father had invented, that’s what made me who I am. I’m not normal, Taylor. I have incredible strength and senses; they trained me to do horrible things, they turned me into a monster and made me kill people for their benefit.”

“So you’re saying you’re like the incredible Hulk like a superhero or something?” she asked him; she still didn’t look at him but she didn’t seem scared either.

“I guess, my appearance doesn’t change but this is who I am. I’m done with that life though, I just recently finished.”

“Recently? What does that mean?”

“I ran away a few years ago and they just found me. They paid me off I guess you can say. I had  to do one last thing and I did but now I don’t have to worry about them anymore,” he explained. There was complete silence in the car for a few minutes as Taylor thought of everything she just heard.

“So that’s how you left the other day? Did you fly away or something?” Taylor asked.

“I can’t fly, it’s just my agility and the power I gain when I jump. You’re not afraid of me, right? Everything they had me do I hated it but that was my means of survival,” he said.

“Chris, that’s your past,” she answered, looking at him, “I’m not afraid of you cause the person you used to be isn’t the person I fell in love with.”

Chris sighed, he was relieved that she wasn’t going to leave him like everyone else he used to love. “I just wanted to tell you before someone else did.”

“Who else knows?”

“Justin does, he’s just like me.”

“I’m glad you trust me enough to tell me all of this,” she told him as she leaned closer to him and softly kissed him on the cheek and held onto his hand, “I have to get back to class. I’ll go over to your place later.” And with another kiss goodbye she grabbed her books from the backseat, stepped out of the car, and walked into a building down the street. Chris felt like a huge weight was lifted off of his shoulders. He didn’t have to live his life afraid, paranoid, or lying anymore. He met someone who accepted and loved him for who he was and he was glad that she was so understanding. But then he wondered why it didn’t bother her so much and why she so easily understood his past or why she wasn’t afraid, was she hiding something too?

Fan Fiction: Superhuman Chapter 11

Chris sat on the ledge of the balcony rubbing his jaw as he watched Taylor yell at Shad who kept giving her lame excuses about what had happened earlier that morning at the mall. Taylor had pushed Chris outside right after Shad had punched him in the jaw while he tried to walk away. The sliding door was locked and sound proof but Chris heard every single word.

“It’s not even like that, Taylor you know I love you,” Shad pleaded.

“Really, Shad? Cause friends don’t just walk around kissing each other,” she replied.

“Well at least I just kissed her, you f-cked him!” he yelled pointing at Chris.

“Keep assuming, you’re making an ass out of yourself. Just get out, I’m done with you.”

“Tay, this was the first time I swear. Just give me another chance,” Shad begged but Taylor never answered, “It’s not even about what happened at the mall, right? It’s him, I’m not dumb. You don’t even know him or what he’s capable of, Taylor,” Shad finished saying as he walked out of the door leaving his luggage behind.

Taylor sighed and turned around to see that Chris wasn’t on the balcony anymore. She walked towards the door confused and slid it open, no one.

“Chris!” she called walking back into the loft, no answer.

“Why the f-ck would he say that, Justin?” Chris asked as he gritted his teeth.

“How the hell am I supposed to know? Austin doesn’t even know the whole story,” Justin explained.

The last thing Chris wanted was for Taylor to find out about his past by someone who didn’t even know the first thing about him. He sat on the couch figuring out all the possible ways that could’ve led Shad to say what he said. When he had left for the heist he had taken Justin’s car and when he tried to leave he didn’t make it all the way home.

“How did you know where I was when I hit up that place?”

“You left the envelope here,” Justin said like it was nothing.

“But if I had your car, what car did you guys pick me up in?” Chris questioned him.

“Austin’s. Then I drove back home in my car.”

“And you left the envelope in Austin’s car and Shad read it? Fucking bullshit,” Chris said and he flipped over the coffee table, walked to his room, and locked the door. When he layed down on his bed he felt his phone vibrate, 5 new text messages and 2 missed calls all from Taylor.

Taylor: Where did you go?
Taylor: How’d you leave if you didn’t go through the front door?
Taylor: Did I do something wrong?
Taylor: If I hurt you in any way I’m sorry.
Taylor: I’m sorry for what Shad did. I didn’t want you to be in the middle of us, you mean more to me than he did. I guess you’ll talk to me when you’re ready. I love you,  Chris.

She blamed herself for nothing since she did nothing wrong and it hurt Chris that he was hurting her and she didn’t even know the truth. He didn’t know how to tell her, he didn’t even know how to start. Chris decided he would avoid her until he was able to explain everything in a way that wouldn’t make her runaway from him but he knew that would be impossible.

2 Days Later..

Chris pressed ignore on his phone, he still wasn’t ready to talk to her. She had already left him millions of questions through texts and voicemail, so far none were “What did Shad mean by I don’t know what you’re capable of?” Maybe she wanted to wait to ask that in person and Chris still had no idea how he would even begin to answer that.

“You should just talk to her,” Justin said breaking the silence; Chris looked at him, “She probably doesn’t know plus you’re done with that life. She’s too much in love with you to hate you because of your past.”

Chris thought about it, grabbed his phone, Justin’s car keys and headed out the door.
