Fan Fiction: Superhuman Chapter 10

She lay in bed for hours in the dark as Shad had his arm wrapped around her waist. Maybe he didn’t know who the hat belonged to or maybe he knew it belonged to Chris and he just wanted to hear the truth from her which she kept quiet about so far. One thing was for certain, she knew he wouldn’t stop asking whose it was till it was brought back to the owner. Shad was that kind of jealous overprotective guy and Taylor didn’t know how she had put up with it for almost three months now. He was a family friend and they had known each other for so long which is how they ended up together. But she had only seen Chris four or five times and he made her feel a certain way she had never felt in any of her previous relationships. Chris had the potential of being her best friend first and then a boyfriend.

She looked over at the clock on her wall. It was 10:30am she realized as she freed herself from Shad’s clasp and got ready to leave the house. She felt disgusted with herself for even thinking about another guy while being in a committed relationship. She had always promised herself that she’d never be that type of girl. When she finished getting dressed she quietly left the apartment, neither Austin or Shad had awoken; they were probably hung over. When she got inside her car she sat down and held Chris’ hat in her hand and replayed everything she thought about all night. This all had to stop soon; she was either going to break Shad’s heart or Chris’ but at this instant her heart was breaking and she hated the feeling.

Taylor: come downstairs
Chris: What?
Taylor: I’m waiting for you in your parking lot just come down. Don’t tell Justin I’m here.
Chris: alright let me get dressed

Taylor sat in her car for thirty minutes till Chris finally came downstairs with this huge smile on his face that soon turned into a confused expression when he saw how tired and sad she looked. He jogged towards her and put her face in his hands.

“What’s wrong? Did he hurt you?” he asked worried.

“What?” she replied confused, “Who are you talking about?”

“Your boyfriend,” Chris said making quotation marks with his hands trying to be sarcastic.

Taylor shook her head and reached into her car, “Here, Shad found it in my room.”

“So he found out?”

“No, but I feel guilty,” she explained as she stared at the ground.

Chris grabbed her hand, “You didn’t do anything wrong, I came onto you.”

“I kissed you, Chris.”

“Yeah, I know” Chris laughed a little, Taylor couldn’t help but smile.

“I know it was wrong but…” she held onto the angel wing pendant on her necklace with one hand and the other was in Chris’.

“But?” he asked.

“I liked it,” Taylor answered looking up at him.

“So break up with him,” Chris suggested shrugging his shoulders.

“It’s not that easy.”

Chris clenched his jaw, he didn’t want to pressure her but he wanted them to be together. “I guess you’ll figure it out. But anyway, let’s go out to eat. Let me get you some breakfast, you look like a mess,” he joked.

Taylor sighed, “That’s not a good idea.”

Chris walked past her into the driver seat of her car and opened the passenger door, “Get in.”

They sat in Good Enough to Eat and Chris ordered Taylor the biggest platter of pancakes she had ever eaten. They sat across from each other at the table and neither of them spoke since they had ordered their food. Chris knew this was all making Taylor uncomfortable and he realized that if he wanted to be more than a friend to her, right now he would have to just be her friend.

“This isn’t a date,” he told her, “We’re just friends.”

Taylor just stared at him, he knew exactly what was on her mind.

“We should go shopping after this,” Taylor insisted changing the subject, “I start school tomorrow.”

“That’s cool,” Chris smiled at her, being ‘just friends’ with her was going to make him miserable.

Taylor’s phone started vibrating on the table just as the waitress set their food on the table. Chris didn’t even bother to ask who it was, by the look on her face it was obvious it was Shad.

“What does he want?” Chris asked with a mouthful of pancakes.

“He just said he’s going out,” Taylor surprisingly answered as she kept texting.

Chris rolled his eyes when she wasn’t looking, “What’s the miracle that he hasn’t asked where you are? He might as well put a tracking device in you,” he said as he rubbed his neck.

“He did ask,” she replied putting her phone back on the table. They ate the rest of their meal in silence.

After Chris paid the check they headed towards the exit and stopped, it was pouring outside. Chris slid off his hoodie and helped Taylor put it on and put the hoodie over her head. She smiled and when he opened the door she grabbed onto his hand and they ran towards the car. Halfway to the car they both stepped into a puddle and Taylor just stopped and looked down at her legs that were soaked. When Chris noticed she stopped running he walked towards her, “Come on, why’d you stop?” he yelled over the thunder. Taylor kicked the puddle at Chris and started laughing, they both started running after each other in the parking lot while people just stared at them in confusion. When Taylor finally got away from Chris she hid in between two cars but he snuck up behind her and she tried to run but he got a grip on one of the sleeves of his hoodie that fit her like a prom dress. It swung her back around and she lost her balance and tripped and fell on the ground. Chris ran to help her and when he reached her he took the hoodie off her head to look at her face, she started giggling again and she sat up against the car.

“You scared me, I thought you were hurt,” he said.

“Aw, you care about me?” she laughed as Chris helped her up. They both got quiet again and all you could hear was the rain hitting the ground. They both looked at each other and Chris leaned his face towards her and slowly pushed her against the car. She wrapped her arms around his neck as he held onto her waist. Their lips finally met as they softly kissed and it slowly became rougher until Taylor pushed Chris away and turned around.

The window of the car rolled down and a man yelled at them, “Didn’t you hear me honking my horn?! There are children around for Pete’s Sake!” His daughter who looked like she was about 10 years old smiled at Taylor, “Your boyfriend’s cute.”

Taylor blushed, “Thanks,” she yelled as Chris pulled her away and they ran to her car laughing hysterically.

When they finally got to the East Broadway Mall they both went to the bathrooms to dry off.

“Wait for me right here,” Chris told her as he walked into the men’s room and she walked towards the woman’s room.

As always Chris took longer so Taylor decided to get a head start and walk inside some of the stores by the men’s room. She went into Victoria’s Secret first and started picking out things before Chris came looking for her, she would feel so uncomfortable if he watched her buy her bras and underwear. After she paid for everything she headed back to where she was supposed to wait for Chris and when she turned the corner she saw Shad and stopped dead in her tracks, he wasn’t alone. The girl looked just like her except she was more thick and a bit shorter. Taylor felt like she couldn’t breathe and she couldn’t move even though all she wanted to do was runaway from there. She felt an arm around her shoulder, “Damn, you went in there without me?” Chris asked as he grabbed her Victoria’s Secret bag out of her hand, “Tay, what’s wrong?” He looked in the direction that Taylor was staring just as Shad started to kiss the other girl. “Are you kidding me?” Chris asked no one in particular, he was pissed. He started walking towards Shad when Taylor finally snapped out of her trance and grabbed onto his arm.

“No, stop. Take me home,” she told Chris and headed towards the exit they just walked through less than 20 minutes ago and Chris actually followed this time.

Chris took Taylor home just like she asked and luckily for him Austin wasn’t around but if he was Chris might have just punched him in the face again for not giving him a heads up about Shad. When they first walked into the apartment Taylor ran up the steps straight into her room. Chris didn’t know if he should run after her to comfort her because she was crying or if he should just give her some space so he ended up on the couch and just waited. He heard things moving around and being slammed and he didn’t know what to do so he just sat there. Fifteen minutes later Taylor slammed open her door and started dragging three suitcases down the steps and towards the door, she was pissed and she wasn’t crying anymore.

“Are you moving out?” Chris asked confused.

“No,” she answered still struggling with the suitcases, “He is.” When she finally set all of the luggage near the door she walked over to Chris who was still on the couch confused, “I’m going to take a shower and change so we can go out,” she said and walked away down the hall again but quieter this time.

Chris was shocked, was she really kicking Shad out? Didn’t he just move in yesterday when they came back from California? This was actually funny to Chris and since Taylor seemed fine he grabbed the control and put on ESPN while he waited. It seemed like forever and Taylor still hadn’t come out of the bathroom but Chris could’ve sworn he heard the shower turn off. He sighed just as he heard keys jingling on the other side of the front door.

“F-ck,” Chris said to himself, the last person he wanted to see right now was Austin.

The door opened but Chris couldn’t see who it was so he decided to wait until whoever it was walked past the wall to the living room.

“What the fuck?” he heard, whoever it was seemed surprised about the luggage by the door.

Chris stood up just as Shad entered the living room and set his eyes on Chris who was wearing the Knicks cap Taylor had given him earlier that morning.
